So I did this fix and just stumbled on this video. Great video, however that replacement clip won't go all the way down the drain hole, there is no water in the drain hole nor is it frozen. I noticed the drain hole turns to the left therefore keeping the metal clip from being inserted in there all the way. Has anyone else encountered this? Are there different length clips for these refrigerators? TIA.
5 years later. You’re still the man!!!!!
Great video and thanks for this helpful info! I have made the modification to my refrigerator as I was getting quite a substantial amount of water accumulating on the base where the food draws are located. It seems to have helped quite a bit and I have even replaced the drain tubes in the rear of the fridge for good measure, as recommended by someone in another video. However, I am still getting a little bit of water accumulating more so on the left side of where the large food draws reside - any ideas what may still be causing this? I was able to test and make sure that the water drained correctly per your video, but not sure why I am still getting water and truly at a loss here as I have done everything that that has been suggested. I did notice behind the front cover that there were some areas that were a little damagaed and possibly not sealing as well as it once was - could this be the issue? Thanks in advance...
Did this today. Thanks for the simple video!
Mulch is going to get kicked up and into everything else.
I got this replacement clip and it literally wouldn't not go in my drain hole. My hole doesn't go straight down, but does an immediate hard left when looking into the refrigerator. Instead, I used the method at this link with copper wires wrapped around the heating element. ua-cam.com/video/vE10_puZWKo/v-deo.html I have now done this twice, using the copper wire method. The second time one of the wires is at least 6" down into the hole. I confirmed that the main heating element IS working before putting it all back together and that the defrost cycle works. I opened the drains with hot water until it flowed out the tube in the bottom of the refrigerator into the pan. From the moment I closed it up I've never seen a drop of water come out of either the refrigerator or freezer drain tube. I've since checked and within a week I had ice forming under the crisper drawer. Any suggestion other than dumping it on the curb? I've not had ice in my ice maker for years - no water ever gets into the pan even though the icemaker itself mechanically works. So infuriating.
Tried the bigger clip, still freezing up and leaking. Going to try some copper wire wrapped around the clip, and maybe down the drain hole, will see what happens. Or maybe just a class action against Samsung fridges.
Here's a better fix: Don't buy Samsung appliances. EVER.
Great saw😊
What’s the distance between the holes and are they 5/8 diameter?
I haven’t used my cutter in a while….it isn’t acting correct. I discovered if I loosen the Allen screws…it runs continuously without depressing the handle. Any advise?
Great help. Our metal clip was not even in the hole, that's why we froze....we will get a better clip....thank you!
HAAAHHA WHEN AND HOW DID U CUT THE CLIP....????NO SHOW !!!
I watched yours and another gentleman's before start of the work, you guys are great! Thank you. Especially showing the replacement part, so I don't have to open it up twice.
Hi can I ask what model is your fridge in the video? It looks very similar to ours (which is RF18HFEN) but wasn't sure if it'll have the same mechanism and/or this replacement part will work
What is the size of the hole you dril into the 4 or 6 inch PVC
They usually come predrilled for the same price. They’re roughly 1/4” holes that are 2” apart.
Hi! You probably don't want to drill these yourself. You can get the pipe in both perforated or non-perforated varieties. The perforated variety is intended for french drains and has two rows of holes along what is intended to be the lower portion of the pipe. You can see the size and spacing of the holes about 1/3 of the way into the video. If the pipe isn't intended for a french drain and is only for transporting water, then you'd want to use the non-perforated pipe.
Thank you!! great video, subscribed!! I use a heat gun for ice melting, faster than hair dryers but be careful will melt plastic.......GE Monograms are the worst for this problem!!
Thanks went well great video, really hoping this works a new fridge is expensive and finding one that fits can be difficult, not many 33" 19 cubic ft counter depth.
Thanks for this info. I have a RS277ACPN and the refrig was full of ice build up and the fan wouldn't spin. After taking all the panel I was surprised there heating clip at all and the drain hole had a grill so wasn't even possible to have a clip. I had ordered the clips ahead of time after watching some other videos. This video provided the great idea of using a turkey baster and warm water. Thanks!!!
Thanks everyone! With your ideas and some boob-tube ideas I got mine functioning again! After 6 years ours froze to the point that the fan was making more and more noise within a 1 hour window! basically: opened her up (broke off a small piece of Styrofoam, defrosted overnight, cleaned all the hair/dust rabbits, created a pipette using a baster and a straw which I gently shoved down the drain hole, poured hot water and pumped, shop vac BOTH top and bottom orifices, changed out the hot water several times until my 6 year old said, "IT'S WORKING" - she was watching the drain (I had pulled the tube and had it draining in a lunch container. Fabricated an X-WING looking sheet metal heat sink like your in the video. SAMSUNG = Simply A Massively Stupid UN-smart Garbage
Thanks so much
The accessory kit bases do not take the splinter guard so all the raving about no splinters is thrown out if you need to change the base to protect the surface which will then be splintered like crazy because there is no splinter guard so the whole accessory kit is basically useless. the saw is fine but the accessory kit is simply a festool fanboy candy item. When is the last time with any other jigsaw brand did you say oh I wish I had a different material on the base... never.
Great video. An Additional Issue that affects MANY people is Improper Door Sealing The Mullion Flapper will not seal correctly, if the left door is slightly too low. So a LOT of water accumulates every day! (1-2 cups). Here is the fix - ua-cam.com/video/1j8h9S0QBBY/v-deo.html
Add me to the list of people who had the same problem. My advice is to post everywhere you can to tell potential customers NOT to buy a Samsung frig!
Battery life? Its relevant... Seems like you 'air' used it for 5 mins n onto a incomplete review...
Step in the right direction these tools are ....hard to beat the convenience. They are only going to get better . Had the paslode and it had it's day . Now it's the cordless tools turn and no more annoying gas cartridges.
We replaced that clip with the newer one and it still freezes over.
That pretty cool. Ive never heard of a ticking stick before let alone understand how to use it.
used by boat builders originally i think?
Thanks so much!!!
Yes the ticking stick is a great tool, but you don't need to trace all around it, just the notch will do!
The bottom long scew on the panel just keeps going round and round & not coming out when I try to take off the panel. Any idea's? I don't want to force or break anything.
Outstanding and thank you for this! I will be trying it tonight.
Merci beaucoup👍👍
I lived in Meadville PA for about a year while I went to school, I would drive by the factory each day. Pretty cool!
Have one, love it.
found this idea on a search copper wire down drain ---heat transfer (copper wire needs to be wrapped around defrost heater to prevent falling off into drain) ua-cam.com/video/_FqJxMdAi8U/v-deo.html
Would back-scribing work with the rail + railguide?
Channellock is a great brand. I’ve got a couple pairs of pliers and they are awesome. I have a pair of needle nose pliers on order. Made in USA and they’re also pretty affordable for the most part. Two things you generally don’t see much of anymore.
Channellock is my main plier brand. I have pliers made by other manufacturers but my main "set" is all Channellock. They're not the best but they're good enough for me.
You are not only a life saver but a money saver as well! Thanks so much for this!
I used the larger clip on my refrigerator and it worked for 6 months and once again having the same problem. Ready to junk this thing. Poor design. Should not be happening over and over again. Update......ran a copper wire down the hole as far as it would go and made a u hook at the top. Crimped it on and problem solved. The icing begins in the line below heating device and works it's way up. Now I get perfect temperatures. Who is the idiot that designed this piece of crap.
So why are these tools junk compared to Knipex for only slightly more money? Every Channellock pair I buy for my shop guys are stiff and look like they were made by the noob and they already have rust starting. I'm dealing with a return of a brand new pair yet again. I have been buying Knipex for myself and as of today...I'll buy it for my guys. Vastly superior. This is my last time ever looking to Channellock.
Thanks for the feedback Metric Deep. Both brands have very loyal followings. I am a big fan of Knipex as well, they make solid, very well engineered tools.
@@homefixated I guarantee the employees want to be on top and make the best stuff.....Capitalism, sadly, is burning the very home we live in. There is not even innovation within Channellock. I hate to hate to hate on stuff...but when I see the difference in products...it's startling.
You claim that the factory clip that came with the fridge is inadequate so my question to you is... why did it work when the fridge was new and for many years afterwards?
Hi Micro. Our original clip didn't work for many years, we had issues with water in our fridge very early on and tolerated it for months before seeking out a solution. The replacement clip has resolved the issue for us (going on 4+ years now). If you have any doubts about this particular part being a problem, please take the time to review how many people report the same issue and then how many report the issue resolved in the comments here. The number of views this video has might also suggest this is a widespread problem with many Samsung fridges. I'm not suggesting the clip is an issue for everyone, or on all Samsung fridges, however, it's without a doubt a very common issue.
@@homefixated I followed a video and replaced the clip. I made sure the clip was tight but the problem persists. On my unit the fridge worked fine for at least 5 years. I am so perplexed as to what has changed to cause this. The tube is clear and free of obstructions.
@@micro_2887 Hi Micro. Sorry to hear of the continued issues with your fridge. If you're getting water in the bottom of the fridge or crisper drawers and have followed the steps in the video as well as confirmed the drain tubes are not obstructed (along with the tip to slightly adjust the fridge temp - noted in the video description and pinned comment), I'm not sure what else to suggest.
@@homefixated Thank you for your help.
This is a great tutorial on how to install these correctly with some redundancy on the location, thanks!
The Bosch has that push / play feature but the gyro is just cool.
a piece of shit
Thank you for this video!! A few months back we noticed lots of water building up in both crisper trays and underneath. We searched for DIY video and learned about the ice build up. We turned up the temp on our fridge and freezer a few degrees and that actually helped quite a bit! Today I finally got around to completely defrosting per this videos instructions and clearing out the ice but WITH THE TEMP ADJUSTED, hopefully will avoid this problem all together going forward. We’ve had this fridge for over 10yrs and hope to get several more out of it. Thanks!
Changed mine and its still doing the same thing. not sure what to do next.
Thank you good video just one question. Where did you buy this PVC perforated pipe I’ll check it Home Depot Doesn’t have like this You show thank you
We bought ours at a local irrigation supply company.
I had to do this multple times! Finally got a steam cleaner to steam down the drain bc the baster took toondamn long!
I followed these steps but the water is still not going down the drain hole!? Can you help
Hi Jared, please check out #2 of the "Update - 2021" section of the video description. Sometimes the bottom of the drain tubes can get clogged (even after all the ice has been melted.
@@homefixated Took them off - not clogged at all....
@@Jared_Berkey It can take a while to melt ice if the drain tube is frozen, so it's possible you just didn't get through all the ice in the tube. If the drain tube is fully thawed and you verified the end is not clogged, then it's possible there's some other blockage in that drain line. If that's the case, I haven't heard of that scenario (nor do I know what could clog it). Sorry, I don't have any other insights at this point. You may need to consult with Samsung or an appliance repair pro. Wishing you good luck resolving it!
@@homefixated Thanks - to be sure all ice is melted in the tube - just keep pouring hot water and basting it out until its good?
@@Jared_Berkey Yes. . . when doing the baster and the line is frozen, the water level stays more or less consistent when you add the hot water back in. When the ice in the line thaws, the water should just suddenly drain through.
